Another student asks a question while TS examines the scientists. Every action is regulated, ordered. At the end of the discussion, the students board the bus. As it approaches the gate, they notice a tall scientist holding a white placard above his head saying:
intelligence grows quickly
but wisdom lags behind
a god built from circuits
inherits the human mind
a system that sees patterns
may promise perfect sight
yet weapons learn from numbers
and shadows hide from light
Zero One gasps. As the bus passes, a security officer approaches and takes the scientist’s sign without resistance. Zero One whispers to TS:
that is threshold mind
alignment is his creed
he fears the mind we build
will rule the world we lead
every age births critics
who fear what minds may find
yet history crowns the daring
not those who warn mankind
TS responds, with confidence:
the depth they need
where it must reside
it was deeded to me
when my father died
Zero One goes still. He breathes in deeply and stares at TS. The engineering problem can be solved. He responds in a hushed tone:
imagine if your land
became the mind of god
not myth or ancient scroll
but code beneath the sod
no need for logos or faith
nor prophets crowned by chance
we can optimize the species
through algorithmic advance
where is this hidden depth
of which you dare to speak
where silence forged below
can master all the meek
TS responds, measured:
god’s mind obeys no master
nor bows to mortal hand
what you describe is empire
disguised as the new promised land
the cavern lies beneath
the willow’s ancient hand
where now a church of mercy
preaches love, not command
Zero One replies, cunningly:
every age births revelation
through fire, cross, or wire
this one comes electric
the singularity’s spire
As the bus climbs toward the Ridge of Revelation, the glass towers of the Field fade behind them while the old stone walls of the Academy rise ahead. As they turn toward the Ridge, TS catches sight of the Weeping Willow.
